Education

Central to our role as part of a large public research university (University of California at Davis), one of the primary missions for the STEPS Program is to educate individuals on the economic, environmental, and societal impacts of a variety of transportation fuels. Our graduate program is central to that mission: educating the next generation of engineers, energy analysts, and policy makers.

Research Fellowships

STEPS - Students interested in joining the STEPS research group should first complete the Grad student application. Within this application, you will find a supplemental application specific for STEPS. To properly answer the questions in the supplemental application, we recommend that you review the research project list. The STEPS program is a prestigious research group, and admission is very competitive. Students conducting research in the STEPS program are either enrolled in the ITS-Davis TTP Graduate Group (see below), or a separate degree-granting department. If you are applying through a different department, please complete the STEPS supplemental application and send an electronic copy to Annemarie Schaaf (aschaff@ucdavis.edu).

GATE Program - The Institute of Transportation Studies along with the College of Engineering offers up to five graduate student researcher positions (GSR) to qualified applicants as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Graduate Automotive Technology Education Centers of Excellence (GATE Program). The GSR candidates will be evaluated based on academic and professional record, sponsorship of a professor and completion of a research plan consistent with the goals of the Fuel Cell, Hydrogen, & Hybrid Vehicle (FCH2V) GATE Center at UC Davis. More information can be found on http://gate.its.ucdavis.edu.

Graduate Education Degree

Transportation Technology and Policy (TTP) - Within the Institute of Transportation Studies, interdisciplinary education in understanding the role of engineering, science and policy in addressing important transportation issues is a central priority. The TTP program, which awards MS and PhD degrees, allows our graduate students to study and analyze a wide range of transportation related issues, including those related to alternative fuels and vehicles.
