STEPS Student Wins Two Awards

David McCollum, a Transportation Technology and Policy (TTP) Ph.D. student, has recently received two prestigious awards. In April, McCollum received a 2008 Eisenhower Transportation Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Transportation. The objective of the Eisenhower Fellowship is “to attract qualified students to the field of transportation and research, and advance transportation workforce development.”

The fellowship provides funding for McCollum to attend the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., in January 2009. In addition, McCollum was awarded the 2007 Friends of ITS-Davis Outstanding M.S. Thesis Award for his work on the future impacts of coal distribution constraints on the price of coal. His comprehensive study examines how expanded future use of coal will affect congestion on the U.S. rail system and projected cost.
